My artistic process of oil painting aims to subvert traditional boundaries between figuration and abstraction. I draw inspiration from artists such as Jenny Saville and Lucian Freud, their raw exploration of the human form and intense, visceral focus on flesh resonates deeply in my work. Both artists treat paint almost as flesh itself, a quality I strive to embody in the texture and materiality of my own practice. Following the completion of my degree at the University of Bristol, I spent 6 months at an Atelier in Boulder, Colorado. This complete immersion into a purist and classical studio allowed me to focus on my technical repertoire confirming how important drawing is to my artistic practice. Through direct observation I aim to interpret in 2D the 3D, the human form and the environment in which it inhabits, through portraiture, figure and the urban landscapes.
